Amy Dulsky Little

Sharing music is amongst our greatest opportunities to foster communication, caring, self and mutual respect between generations.

My life was shaped by music.

My parents were accomplished amateur musicians who instilled a love of music in my siblings and me from the time we were very young. We made music together, listened to each other practice, always holding music a part of our identity as individuals.

After graduating the Juilliard School, I played viola with the Essex Quartet for more than a decade. Performing some of the most extraordinary classical music in the world was a true privilege; but once I had kids, my vision of my life in music changed.  Teaching became my passion.

I was lucky to learn from the best, having served as teaching assistant to the Tokyo and Juilliard String Quartets. I taught music and chaired the Arts Department at the Amistad Dual Language School in New York City for 22 years. Currently I am the Director of Great Start Music School, a private studio dedicated to nurturing beginner musicians.

Music is the driving force in my life.

It has always been something that has helped me connect with others. My father was my biggest supporter. His passion for music was passed on to me, and then to my son.  Dad played harmonica and even when he had Alzheimer’s, he would pick it up and play with my son, who accompanied him on the violin.  Seeing that precious portion of his soul reemerge from the clouds of this terrible disease was a profound lesson for me on the impact of music.

I began my studies of classical guitar at the age of 8 and went on to study with some of the biggest names in the US and Italy. I have performed throughout North America, Italy and even in between on the QE2.

When my son was young, we used to perform violin and guitar duets at regional nursing homes. This was a wonderful education for both of us.

I am a lifelong resident of Riverdale and am presently on the faculty of the Lucy Moses School, Greenwich Suzuki Academy and the Hudson River School of Music.
